The Kebbi State Government has made a significant move to support education in the state by paying N950 million to the Key Science Academy, securing the release of WAEC and NECO certificates for 164 indigenous students. This payment covered outstanding tuition and examination fees that the previous administration had failed to honor.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Halima Muhammad Bande, announced this development, highlighting that most of the students had studied medicine and other science subjects but were unable to secure admission for higher studies due to the unavailability of their original certificates [1).

This move aligns with the state’s focus on education, as evident in initiatives like the Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero (KSUSTA), which offers various science and technology programs. The university has recently released its admission list for the 2023/2024 academic session and has set a cut-off mark of 140 for admission.

The Kebbi State Government’s commitment to education is also reflected in its previous efforts, such as paying NECO, WAEC, and NAPTEP examination fees for secondary school students, as well as providing tuition fees for tertiary students ¹. The state government has also renovated some secondary and tertiary institutions across the state, upgraded the School of Nursing Birnin Kebbi, and established the Federal University of Agriculture in Zuru.
The students, who benefited from the government’s gesture, expressed gratitude to the State Government for liberating them from financial indebtedness to the Science Academy, which had hindered their educational progress. This move is expected to boost educational development in the state and provide opportunities for young people to pursue their academic goals.
