Kebbi Govt. Postpones 61st Argungu Fishing Festival to 2026 for Major Upgrades

The Kebbi State Government has deferred the highly anticipated 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival from February 2025 to February 2026.

This development was conveyed in an official statement released by the Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar-Tafida, and disseminated to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.

Abubakar-Tafida, who also chairs the 2025 Festival Committee, stated that the postponement was the outcome of extensive consultations with key stakeholders.

He emphasized that the decision was necessitated by the imperative need to undertake comprehensive and permanent refurbishments of the festival’s venues.

“The deferment aligns with the ongoing road dualization project and numerous other infrastructural developments in Argungu township.

“Additionally, other critical considerations have compelled the adjustment of the festival’s schedule to 2026.

“The state government remains unwavering in its commitment to delivering an exceptional fishing and cultural festival that will spotlight the rich cultural heritage of our people in 2026,” he affirmed.

The deputy governor expressed profound appreciation for the public’s understanding and the stakeholders’ cooperation in this regard.

“Let us remain steadfast in our collective pursuit of a more prosperous future for Kebbi,” he urged. (NAN)
