Kebbi State Boosts School Feeding Budget to N350 Million Monthly for Quality Education

The Kebbi State Government has significantly increased its monthly budget for secondary school feeding programs, raising the expenditure from N200 million to N350 million. This initiative is part of the administration’s broader commitment to improving education and student welfare in the state.

Enhancing School Meals to Promote Learning
Governor Nasir Idris disclosed this development during his visit to Suru, Koko/Besse, and Maiyama local government areas. He emphasized the importance of quality meals in encouraging students to stay in school and focus on their academics. “A good meal is essential; when students eat nutritious food, they stay and study seriously,” he stated.

Free Education for All
In addition to better school meals, the administration has implemented a free education policy to ensure accessibility for all students. This includes covering examination fees, tuition, and scholarships for both secondary and tertiary levels. The governor expressed his belief that this will ease financial burdens on parents while fostering knowledge acquisition among students.

Infrastructure and Resources Development
Governor Idris highlighted the administration’s achievements in educational infrastructure, with 366 new schools constructed and 1,816 rehabilitated. These schools have been equipped with modern furniture, instructional materials, and learning facilities to improve the quality of education across the state.

Commitment to Educational Excellence
As a professional teacher, Governor Idris reiterated his determination to elevate Kebbi’s educational standards to national and international levels. His administration aims to position the state as a beacon of educational advancement through strategic investments and reforms.

Agricultural Support and Food Security
Beyond education, the governor outlined plans to enhance agricultural productivity by providing free fertilizers and launching irrigation farming in February. These efforts include distributing 30,000 solar and CNG-powered water pumping machines to farmers.

Key Takeaways
This move aligns with the federal government’s broader initiative, as seen in the N100 billion allocated for the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP) under the 2025 Appropriation Bill. By prioritizing education and agriculture, Kebbi State aims to foster sustainable development and improve the quality of life for its residents
