Kebbi State Government Launches Statewide Fumigation Exercise to Combat Malaria

Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has approved the release of N814.8 million for the payment of gratuity and death benefits to 417 retired and deceased workers from various sectors. The beneficiaries include state employees, local government workers, staff from Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs), and contract employees who disengaged between March 16 and April 15, 2024.

This major step towards ensuring financial security for retirees and the families of deceased workers was announced in a statement by the Acting Head of Service, Hajiya Aisha M. Usman, in Birnin Kebbi. According to the statement, the payments reflect the government’s commitment to the welfare of public servants, both in service and retirement, amidst ongoing economic challenges in the country.

The detailed breakdown of the payments reveals a two-phase verification process. Initially, a committee led by Kwaido submitted a list of 314 beneficiaries with a proposed payment of N757.7 million. However, further scrutiny reduced the number of beneficiaries to 287, lowering the payment to N633.9 million. The breakdown for the 287 verified beneficiaries is as follows:

In addition to this, an extra N180.8 million was allocated to 130 beneficiaries whose cases had been pending from previous years (2017–2024) but were later verified. This brings the total disbursement to N814,780,520.73 for 417 beneficiaries.
