In a decisive move, Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, bid farewell to the outgoing 21 local Government Chairmen, marking the conclusion of their tenure on Monday, 5th February 2024. The Governor expressed appreciation for the invaluable contributions of these leaders to their respective localities and the entire state during a farewell meeting held at the Council Chamber of Government House, Birnin Kebbi.
Governor Idris commended the performance and progress achieved by the outgoing Chairmen in their local government areas. As part of the transition process, Gov. Idris announced the dissolution of the 21 Local Government Councils, directing the outgoing Chairmen to promptly hand over the mantle of leadership to the Directors of Personnel Management (DPMs) of their councils.

The dissolution order was in accordance with the law governing the tenure of elected local government officials, with the Governor emphasizing the expiration of their term this Monday. Additionally, Governor Nasir Idris instructed all Secretaries of the 21 Local Government Councils to vacate their offices immediately.
During the farewell meeting, Governor Idris expressed gratitude to the people and Government of Kebbi State for their support. He acknowledged the outgoing Chairmen’s dedicated efforts towards the development of their areas, assuring them of a promising future in his administration.
Reflecting on recent political victories, Governor Idris gave thanks for the triumph in the just concluded bye-elections for Ngaski/Yauri/Shanga Federal constituency and the Arewa/Dandi Federal Constituency. He extended appreciation to the affected local government areas for their support.

In a post-farewell discussion with newsmen, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Garba Umar Dutsinmari, clarified that the directive for Secretaries to vacate office was aimed at ensuring compliance with the law, particularly due to their political affiliations post-retirement.
The Commissioner reassured the public that the government is committed to ensuring that all local government councils operate within the bounds of the law. As the state undergoes this transition, Governor Nasir Idris looks forward to a brighter future for the region, promising continued progress and development.
