Kebbi State Governor Mohammed Idris Nominated for 2025 African Governor of the Year Award

Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has earned a prestigious nomination for the African Governor of the Year award at the 2025 African Illustrious Awards, scheduled to be held on July 12, 2025, at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The nomination, announced in a statement released to PUNCH Online on Tuesday, recognized Governor Idris’s transformative leadership and unwavering dedication to the socio-economic growth of Kebbi State within his two years in office.

According to the awards committee, Governor Idris was selected for his visionary reforms in the education sector, where he spearheaded the rehabilitation and full equipping of 2,023 primary and secondary schools, in addition to building 243 new schools with modern facilities. He has also been commended for guaranteeing free education across the state, a bold move aimed at boosting literacy and educational inclusion in Kebbi.

The African Illustrious Awards, organized annually by My Media Africa, celebrates excellence in leadership, community development, philanthropy, education, agriculture, business, academia, and sports. Since its inception in 2020, the awards have honored African icons such as former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Alfred Mutua of Kenya, and Pan-Africanist Prof. Patrick Lumumba.

Governor Idris, a former President of the Nigerian Union of Teachers and Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, continues to receive accolades for prioritizing education and grassroots development as key pillars of governance in Kebbi State.
