In a recent development, the Kebbi State Government has taken decisive action by shutting down two private tertiary institutions within the state. The Lamido Umaru Mutube College of Advanced Studies and Health Sciences in Dakingari, as well as the SAHAM College of Health Sciences and Technology in Zuru, have been suspended indefinitely due to their failure to fulfill financial obligations to the state.
According to the Commissioner for Higher Education, Isah Abubakar Tunga, the closure comes as a result of the institutions’ refusal to pay their dues to the state’s coffers for the past two years. In an official statement signed by the Director of Higher Education, Aliyu Shehu Jega, it was highlighted that despite multiple reminders and warnings from the ministry, the institutions failed to comply with their financial responsibilities.

“We have nothing against them; we only suspended them because they refuse to pay the yearly dues to the government. We will reopen them immediately they pay their dues to the government,” stated Commissioner Tunga, emphasizing that the decision is solely based on the institutions’ non-compliance with financial obligations.
The closure of these two private tertiary institutions underscores the state government’s commitment to ensuring that all educational institutions operating within its jurisdiction adhere to financial regulations. The move is expected to send a clear message to other institutions regarding the importance of meeting their financial obligations promptly.
