A Call for Institutional Integrity
During his engagement with the university’s leadership, Tukur-Idris emphasized the importance of maintaining the corruption-free achievements the institution has recorded. He encouraged the university to continue serving as a model of integrity in the fight against corruption.
He lauded the Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Bagudu Dan-Shehu, for his prudent management of resources, which he described as a benchmark for transparency and accountability in the public sector.
The Role of ACTUs in Combating Corruption
The ICPC Commissioner highlighted that ACTUs have been mandated by the Federal Government to be established across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). These units serve as internal mechanisms to report, monitor, and prevent corruption within institutions.
Tukur-Idris further recommended that the university consider sending its staff to the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN) to bolster their knowledge and skills in curbing corrupt practices and fostering integrity.
University Leadership’s Commitment
In response, Professor Dan-Shehu expressed gratitude to the ICPC for its support and dedication to promoting transparency within the institution. He pledged to explore the possibility of sponsoring university staff for training at the ICPC Academy to enhance their capacity in combating corruption effectively.
Broadening the Anti-Corruption Campaign
In a related development, Tukur-Idris extended his advocacy to the Kebbi State House of Assembly, seeking their partnership in the fight against corruption. He provided educational materials to the legislators and reminded them of their crucial role in promoting accountability and good governance.
Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Sama’ila Bagudo, assured the ICPC of the assembly’s unwavering support. He emphasized the significance of collaboration in achieving transparency and accountability within the state.
A Path Towards Good Governance
The ICPC’s initiatives in Kebbi underline the importance of institutional integrity and collective action in addressing corruption. Through partnerships with academic institutions and legislative bodies, the commission aims to foster an environment where transparency and accountability thrive.
