Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, has announced plans to review the dethronement of Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi, the 14th Emir of Kano. Sanusi was removed from his position in March 2020 by outgoing Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and banished to a remote community in Nasarawa State.
Kwankwaso, who is also a former governor of Kano, said that the incoming government of Abba Kabir Yusuf, popularly known as Abba Gida-Gida, will revisit the dethronement and balkanisation of the emirate.
He added that they will advise the government to do the right thing and study the issues surrounding the situation. Kwankwaso also mentioned that as leaders, they tried not to intervene in the issue of bringing or removing any Emir, but now, an opportunity has come.

He said that they will continue with the good works their administration left, and they will take up the issue of the dethronement and balkanisation of the emirate.
Kwankwaso further explained that even the emirate has been divided into five places, and all these need to be studied. Usually, a leader inherits good, bad and issues that are hard to reconcile.
Overall, Kwankwaso’s announcement signals a shift in the political landscape of Kano, and many will be watching closely to see how the incoming government will handle this sensitive issue.
