JAMB Introduces Advanced Devices to Curb Exam Malpractices

JAMB Exam Malpractice 2023

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has taken a step further in the fight against examination malpractice in Nigeria by unveiling advanced devices to detect malpractices before, during, and after exams. The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this during an interview with journalists while monitoring the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) at some Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres in Lagos.

Prof. Oloyede expressed his satisfaction with the conduct of the exam, stating that the level of malpractice and other infractions had reduced significantly. He noted that the devices were better equipped to detect any form of malpractice during the exam, irrespective of where it occurred. This development has led to a drastic reduction in impersonation and exam malpractice, moving JAMB closer to the zero level.

In addition, Oloyede urged candidates to remain focused, work hard, and shun vices that could compromise their future. He reminded them that there was no shortcut to success.

The JAMB registrar stated that the examination has been hitch-free, and reports from centres across the country indicated that the integrity of the exam was not compromised. Oloyede noted that JAMB had addressed the challenge of delayed commencement of the exam this year, stating that any delay beyond an hour would lead to the cancellation of the exam. This move was aimed at curbing exam malpractice.

He also regretted the glitches initially experienced in some states on the first day of the examination but assured affected candidates that they had been rescheduled. He further disclosed that out of the 1.6 million candidates that registered for the exam, 1.5 million candidates have already been tested but for the rescheduling that occurred.

Finally, Prof. Oloyede expressed satisfaction with the performance of the various centres nationwide and other stakeholders who cooperated with the board in ensuring that the integrity of the exam was not compromised. The introduction of the advanced devices by JAMB is a welcome development, as it will significantly reduce the rate of exam malpractice in Nigeria’s educational system.
