Successful Conduct of 2023 UTME Applauded by Federal Government
The Federal Government has expressed its appreciation to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for the smooth and successful administration of the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, commended the board and its Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, during his monitoring visit to a Computer Based Test (CBT) center located in Mambila Barracks, Asokoro, Abuja.
Despite encountering a few initial challenges, Adamu conveyed his satisfaction with the well-organized conduct of the examination. He lauded the arrangements at the center, including the temporary holding room for candidates, expressing his contentment with the overall implementation.
Adamu remarked, “I am very happy with what I have seen. Regarding the holding room and the arrangements for the examination, I think everything is in order. Have you seen any problem? Perhaps they should have a class for the holding room, I think that is the only improvement they will make here.”
Moreover, Dr Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, stated that approximately 80,000 candidates, who were unable to sit for the UTME within their scheduled time through no fault of their own, were able to participate in the rescheduled examination across the nation. This group included candidates who were verified at their respective centers but could not take the test, individuals who faced issues during biometric verification, and those with data discrepancies.

Dr Benjamin emphasized that the implementation of innovative measures during the exam yielded remarkable results, as it witnessed a significant reduction in reported cases of examination malpractice. He stated, “In this year’s UTME, the issue of examination malpractices was reduced to almost zero level.”
Regarding the release of results for the rescheduled UTME, Benjamin mentioned that the decision would be made by JAMB’s management after thoroughly analyzing the conduct of the examination. It should be noted that the board had already released the results of candidates who participated in the exam on its original dates, which began on Tuesday, 25th April.
The 2023 UTME garnered a total of 1,586,765 candidates who expressed their interest in sitting for the examination. The successful completion of the UTME, coupled with the commendation from the Federal Government, reflects JAMB’s commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent evaluation process for students seeking admission into tertiary institutions across the country.
