The Commissioner representing Cross River State at the National Population Commission (NPC), Navy Capt Charles Ogwa (rtd), has assured Nigerians of the commission’s unwavering commitment to completing the postponed head and household count. In a press engagement held in Calabar, Ogwa revealed that the preparations for the census have reached an impressive 80% completion rate.
According to Ogwa, the major activities, including trainings and Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD), have already been successfully accomplished. The commission is currently conducting online training sessions in anticipation of a new date for the census. Ogwa emphasized that the commission is eagerly awaiting the approval of a new date by President Bola Tinubu, and he expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by the president during a meeting held on July 6 with the Chairman of NPC, Mr Nasir Kwarra.
Highlighting the significance of the census, Ogwa stressed that the comprehensive demographic data generated by the commission would serve as a vital tool for development, planning, and informed decision-making concerning the population. He clarified that the postponement of the census should not be seen as a setback, but rather as an opportunity for the new administration to take charge of the exercise effectively.
The NPC commissioner concluded by assuring the public that the commission is diligently working towards fulfilling its mandate and ensuring a successful census. With the preparations already at an impressive 80%, the NPC is poised to conduct an accurate and comprehensive head and household count that will play a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s future.
