Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is set to welcome back their star striker, Kylian Mbappe, for the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie against Real Sociedad. The 25-year-old French forward, who was rested during PSG’s 3-1 league victory against Lille over the weekend, is now fully available after recovering from an ankle injury sustained in a French Cup match against Brest.
PSG manager Luis Enrique expressed his confidence in Mbappe’s readiness, stating, “Kylian Mbappe is available, just like the other players. When a team has a player like Kylian Mbappe, of course, we know that the more he plays, the better, because we all benefit from that.”
Despite being an unused substitute in the Lille match, Enrique emphasized that the decision to rest Mbappe was a precautionary measure, noting, “He could have played (on Saturday) if it had been a final, but it wasn’t, it was not worth the risk.”
Mbappe has been in stellar form this season, scoring 20 goals in Ligue 1 and three in the Champions League. His return is expected to bolster PSG’s attacking prowess as they face Real Sociedad, currently seventh in La Liga.

Real Sociedad, led by striker Sadiq Umar, finished at the top of their Champions League group, outperforming the likes of Inter Milan. Umar, who recently participated in the AFCON 2023 with the Super Eagles, left the national team camp citing an injury but has since been spotted training with his club, sparking speculation about the severity of his condition. The lanky striker is anticipated to feature in Sociedad’s starting lineup for the crucial encounter.
In other Champions League results, Manchester City secured a 3-1 victory against Copenhagen, while Real Madrid edged past Leipzig with a 1-0 win. Tonight’s fixtures include PSG vs. Sociedad and Lazio vs. Bayern Munich in the Round of 16.
