Millwall Goalkeeper Matija Sarkic Dies at 26 While on International Duty

Millwall Football Club is mourning the tragic loss of their 26-year-old goalkeeper, Matija Sarkic, who passed away after falling ill while on international duty with Montenegro.

Sarkic became ill at an apartment in Budva, Montenegro, and despite receiving immediate medical attention, he tragically passed away around 6:30 am local time. Just over a week ago, he had played a full match for Montenegro against Belgium.

Millwall, in a statement issued on their website, expressed profound sadness over Sarkic’s untimely death. The statement highlighted his contributions to the club since joining from Wolverhampton Wanderers in August 2023, making 33 appearances as Millwall’s number one goalkeeper.

A Montenegro international, Sarkic was a proud representative of his country and had a notable career in English football, earning respect and admiration across the footballing community.
