In a recent development, the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) B-Zone has expressed deep concern regarding the inclusion of explicit and sexually suggestive content in certain primary and secondary school textbooks circulating within Nigeria. This issue, they argue, poses a significant threat to the moral values and cultural/religious principles of the Nigerian people, particularly the Muslim community.
The MSSN B-Zone has pointed out several instances of questionable content within Mathematics, English, and Social Science textbooks used in Nigerian secondary schools. These textbooks have, in their view, been tainted with explicit material aimed at sexualizing young students, a situation they find deeply troubling.

Examples of such content include mathematics questions that involve the use of condoms as numerical variables, as well as the promotion of subjects like abortion, LGBT, masturbation, and safe sex with condoms. The MSSN has provided references to specific textbooks and pages where these issues can be found.
One particularly concerning instance highlighted by the MSSN is a Basic Science textbook for Junior Secondary School by Razat Publishers, 2018 edition. This book, intended for JSS3 students, contains content related to teenage pregnancy, types of abortions, myths and facts about pregnancy, and indoctrination of pupils on unsafe and safe abortion terminology. The book also offers information on contraceptives and provides misleading information on abstinence.
The MSSN’s concerns extend to other textbooks such as “Active Basic Science” and “Cry for Justice,” which they argue contain explicit descriptions of sexual experiences. They also call out books that seemingly encourage sexual relationships with HIV patients.
Furthermore, the MSSN points to Basic Science & Technology textbooks for Junior Secondary Schools, which they claim promote abortion, LGBT, masturbation, and safe sex with condoms.

In light of these concerns, the MSSN calls upon the Ministry of Education to launch an immediate investigation into the matter and ensure that textbooks used in Nigerian schools are devoid of content that could harm the morals of young students. They insist that textbooks containing explicit material must be removed from circulation in schools across the country.
The MSSN underscores the importance of the Nigerian education system upholding the cultural and religious values of its people, particularly the Muslim community. They argue that the inclusion of such explicit materials in textbooks threatens the morality of children and constitutes an attack on cultural and religious values.
The MSSN’s plea for action highlights the need for educational materials that respect the diverse cultural and religious backgrounds of Nigeria’s students while ensuring that their education is grounded in shared values of respect and decency.
