In a recent interview with Arise TV, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, delved into the intricacies of the N-Power program and shed light on the reasons behind the delay in payments to beneficiaries. Edu’s insights not only provided clarity on the situation but also outlined the government’s plans to tackle these challenges effectively.

Identifying the Issues

Minister Betta Edu wasted no time in addressing the issues plaguing the N-Power program. She pinpointed several key concerns that have led to the current backlog in payments.

One significant problem was the inclusion of individuals on the N-Power payment list who should not have been part of the program. This inclusion raised questions about the screening and enrollment process, highlighting the need for a thorough review.

Another issue raised by Edu was the delay in payments to beneficiaries. She attributed this problem to mismanagement of funds by those responsible for disbursing payments. This financial mismanagement not only affected the timeliness of payments but also raised concerns about the transparency of the payment system.

Furthermore, Edu brought attention to individuals who had exceeded their allotted time with the N-Power program but still expected to receive payments. This situation necessitated discussions about an “exit plan” to address the needs of these beneficiaries while ensuring the program’s sustainability.

Commitment to Solutions

To address these pressing challenges, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation took proactive steps. They established a committee to investigate the issues at hand, with the secretary of the ministry leading the charge. Edu confirmed that they had already received the committee’s initial report, signifying their commitment to finding solutions promptly.

Towards a Brighter Future

Minister Betta Edu reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly the goal of lifting 133 million Nigerians out of poverty by 2030. She expressed optimism about the future, stating that, through various strategies and approaches, they aimed to remove at least 20 million Nigerians from poverty within the next year.

By addressing the payment backlog and streamlining the N-Power program, the government aspires to improve the lives of countless Nigerians and make significant strides towards achieving their ambitious poverty alleviation targets.
