In a significant victory against terrorism, the Nigerian Airforce’s Air Component of Operation Whirl Punch successfully executed air strikes in Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State, neutralizing scores of terrorists, including the notorious ‘Yellow Jambros.’ This dreaded terrorist and kidnap kingpin had been responsible for a series of heinous crimes, including kidnappings and killings in Zamfara, Niger, Kaduna, Katsina, and Zamfara States.
Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of NAF Public Relations, revealed that the operation targeted Yellow Jambros and his cohorts as they attempted to cross Jikudna River in Galadima Kogo District, heading towards Wurukuvhi axis of Chikun LGA. The terrorists, who had been trailed from Zamfara State into Niger State, were riding 13 motorcycles along the Kaduna-Niger State border. Subsequently, five additional motorcycle-riding terrorists joined Yellow Jambros’ convoy, bringing the total number of motorcycles to 18.

The precision strike, executed as the terrorists attempted to cross the river on a large motor-powered canoe, proved highly effective. It not only neutralized Yellow Jambros and his colleagues but also destroyed their motorcycles and sank the boat.
Gabkwet emphasized the unusual nature of terrorists traveling in a convoy of 18 motorcycles in broad daylight. The perpetrators, however, seemed to have assumed that air strikes were temporarily suspended, following a prior incident in Tudun Biri, Kaduna State. This miscalculation led to the successful execution of the operation, safeguarding the region from further threats posed by Yellow Jambros and his cohorts.

Yellow Jambros and his gang were infamous for their involvement in numerous kidnappings and killings along the Abuja-Kaduna Road and in various communities in Kaduna, Niger, Katsina, and Zamfara States. Mohammed Sani, a kidnapped kingpin arrested in Zamfara State, revealed that he worked for Yellow Jambros, who supplied him with fake military and police uniforms, guns, and other weapons needed for criminal operations.
This decisive action by the Nigerian Airforce marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and ensure the safety and security of the affected regions.
