NAHCON Extends Deadline for 2024 Hajj Payments

NAHCON Extends Deadline for 2024 Hajj Payments

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has responded to appeals from religious leaders, State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards/Agencies/Commissions, state governors, and other stakeholders by extending the payment deadline for the 2024 pilgrimage. The initial deadline of December 31, 2023, has now been extended to January 31, 2024, as announced by Fatima Sanda Usara, the commission’s Assistant Director on Public Affairs.

In a statement released by Usara, NAHCON acknowledged the heartfelt concerns raised by various stakeholders, emphasizing the significance of accommodating a broader spectrum of the faithful eager to participate in the sacred pilgrimage. The extension aims to provide an additional opportunity for individuals to partake in the spiritual journey of Hajj.

The decision to extend the deadline comes with Federal Government’s approval and is expected to allow new registrants to enroll for the pilgrimage. NAHCON, in collaboration with sister agencies, aims to determine the total cost of the 2024 Hajj before the new deadline expires. This extension is not only for new registrants but also for those who need to balance up their payments, giving them the chance to complete the necessary transactions.

It is noteworthy that the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has set the end date for signing all contracts as February 25. This signifies the conclusion of payments into International Bank Account Number (IBAN) accounts. With the extension, NAHCON now has a limited timeframe of about a month to finalize the payment of all Hajj deposits into its IBAN account for the 2024 Hajj.

Despite the extension affecting NAHCON’s preparatory timeline, the Chairman, Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi, expressed commitment to accommodating the concerns of stakeholders. He conveyed gratitude to religious leaders, state boards, and governors for their advocacy on behalf of the pilgrims. Malam Arabi described this collaborative effort as a testament to the shared commitment to facilitating a meaningful and inclusive Hajj experience for all. He also prayed for the success of the 2024 Hajj operations.
