In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced the interception of twelve consignments of cocaine at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu. The operation led to the arrest of a 44-year-old businessman, Augustine Justine Emeka, who had arrived from Douala, Cameroon via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Emeka was found in possession of 797 pellets of cocaine weighing 17.6 kilograms.
During preliminary interviews, Emeka confessed that the seized cocaine was intended for delivery to 12 different individuals within the country. This successful operation is part of NDLEA’s ongoing efforts to curb the illegal drug trade and dismantle drug trafficking networks.

In another significant development, NDLEA operatives at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos apprehended Onyejiuwa Prince Ifeanyi, who had been evading authorities since September. Ifeanyi was linked to a 20kg cannabis consignment bound for the United Kingdom, concealed in tomato paste tins.
The agency’s operations extended to various states, resulting in multiple arrests and seizures. In Katsina, NDLEA officers disrupted a pre-wedding ceremony drug abuse competition, apprehending 25 individuals engaged in the consumption of various illicit substances. In Anambra, a truck carrying large quantities of codeine-based syrup, tramadol, and pentazocine injection was intercepted.

The NDLEA’s relentless efforts also led to the arrest of individuals in Kaduna, Kogi, Borno, Ondo, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The seized substances included cannabis, diazepam, tramadol, and pentazocine injection.
The agency’s Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), commended the officers for their dedication and success in the recent operations. He urged continued vigilance and a balance between offensive actions and drug demand reduction efforts.

The NDLEA’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy campaign remains active, with sensitization lectures held in schools, markets, worship places, and other public spaces across the country.
