NDLEA Seizes Over 14 Tons of Ghanaian Loud in Lagos

In a major operation, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully intercepted and seized a substantial amount of Ghanaian Loud, a psychoactive substance, in Lagos. The operation, conducted by NDLEA operatives, resulted in the interception of two trucks and a J5 bus, collectively carrying over 14 tons of the illicit substance.

The interception took place in the Ojuelegba area of Lagos during the early hours of Sunday, January 28. Two of the drivers managed to escape, but the third driver, 66-year-old Nasiru Ojomu, employed by the wanted drug baron Suleiman Jimoh (alias Olowo Idi Ogede or Temo), was apprehended.

Notably, Temo has been on the NDLEA’s radar for the past three years, with multiple shipments of the same psychoactive substance linked to him. Despite ongoing efforts, Temo remains elusive, prompting a continuous manhunt by the NDLEA.

This recent seizure is part of the NDLEA’s broader efforts to curb drug-related activities across the country. In various states, arrests were made, including a deaf and dumb suspect in Zaria, Kaduna state, found in possession of 150 grams of cannabis.

In Kogi state, operatives destroyed 833.32 kilograms of cannabis sativa on a two-acre farmland at Iluke community, Kabba-Bunu LGA. The owner, Samuel Atonila, 49, was arrested during the operation.

Furthermore, in Nasarawa state, three suspects—Muhammed Musa, Bilyaminu Musa, and Sadiya Ya’u—were apprehended with 24.4kg of the same psychoactive substance at Uke, Karu local government area.

The NDLEA’s commitment to tackling drug-related crimes also led to the recovery of 258 kilograms of the substance from a bush store around Ikare bypass, Owo, Ondo state.

This latest drug seizure follows the December 2023 arrest of a 70-year-old grandma and her son, caught with millions of tramadol 225mg pills, thousands of codeine syrup bottles, and bags of Canadian Loud.

The NDLEA’s actions underscore the ongoing battle against illicit drug trafficking and distribution, aiming to safeguard communities and ensure the perpetrators face legal consequences.
