The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has released a new update to assist fresh students who have not yet received their matriculation or admission numbers but still want to apply for the NELFUND tuition loan. This latest guideline aims to ensure that newly admitted students do not miss out on the current loan window while their institutions complete internal documentation.
According to the directive, any student who has not been issued a matriculation number can now proceed with their application using their Admission Number or JAMB Registration Number. This temporary alternative is accepted on the portal and allows freshers to complete their tuition loan request without delay.
This update provides clarity for many students who have been waiting for their schools to finalize records. With the NELFUND portal already active, the agency encourages all eligible students to begin the process early to avoid last-minute congestion.
The loan application portal remains open until January 31, 2026, giving students enough time to apply, verify their academic details, and upload the required information.

Students are advised to follow the correct application procedures, ensure that their personal and academic information matches institutional records, and check their portals frequently for updates from NELFUND.
This guideline is particularly important for newly admitted candidates into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education who are still completing registration at their institutions. By allowing alternative identification numbers, NELFUND has simplified access and ensured that no student is left behind.
Freshers can now log in to the official portal at nelf.gov.ng to submit their application.
