The Nigeria Police Force has raised serious concerns over alleged irregularities and corruption surrounding the recently released list of successful candidates in the ongoing 2022/23 police constables recruitment exercise. According to Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, discrepancies in the published list have sparked a wave of complaints from stakeholders and unsuccessful candidates alike.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, ACP Adejobi highlighted several anomalies discovered upon scrutiny of the recruitment list. He pointed out that names of individuals who did not participate in the recruitment process were included in the list of successful candidates. Furthermore, the list reportedly featured candidates who had previously failed the Computer Based Test (CBT), physical screenings, or were disqualified on medical grounds.

One of the most troubling allegations raised by the Police Force is the involvement of financial dealings and corrupt practices leading to the inclusion of unqualified and unfit individuals on the list. ACP Adejobi emphasized that such actions undermine the integrity of the recruitment process and compromise the quality of personnel entering the police force.
In response to these concerns, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olukayode Egbetokun wrote to the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC) on June 10, formally objecting to the released list and citing the identified irregularities. The IGP’s objection, as stated by ACP Adejobi, underscores the importance of recruiting only qualified, competent, trainable, and productive individuals into the Nigeria Police Force.

While acknowledging the Supreme Court’s ruling affirming the PSC’s authority to recruit for the police, ACP Adejobi stressed that this mandate does not extend to recruiting unqualified personnel. He warned against the potential repercussions of hiring unfit candidates, emphasizing that the police bear the brunt of such recruitments when operational inefficiencies arise.
Moving forward, the Nigeria Police Force has disassociated itself from the published recruitment list and called for a transparent and credible review process. ACP Adejobi assured the public of the police’s commitment to ensuring a thorough review that aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s vision for police reform. The objective remains to recruit individuals who will contribute effectively to enhancing the force’s operational capabilities and serving the nation with diligence.
