The Nigerian Army has officially opened applications for its Direct Short Service Commission Course 28/2024, inviting eligible Nigerians to join as officers. The Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) is available to both civilians and serving military personnel, including those sponsored to civil institutions by any of the Nigerian Armed Forces services.

Prospective applicants can choose from various Corps and Services, each requiring specific qualifications. Options include the Nigerian Army Engineers, Signals, Intelligence Corps, Corps of Supply and Transport, Medical Corps, Ordnance Corps, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Military Police, Education Corps, Finance Corps, Band Corps, and various directorates such as Army Public Relations, Legal Service, Physical Training, Chaplain Services (Roman Catholic, Protestant, and Islamic Affairs).

Entry Requirements:
Applicants must be Nigerian citizens aged between 20 and 30, with certain exceptions for medical consultants up to 40 years old by April 2024. They should be medically, mentally, and physically fit, possess a minimum of a second class lower degree or HND, and meet specific criteria based on the chosen Corps or Service. Good character attestation, birth certificates, NYSC discharge certificates, and other documentation are also required.

Conditions of Service:
Successful candidates will be granted the DSSC for a total of 15 years, with an initial period of 8 years and renewable yearly for another 7 years. Direct Regular Commission (DRC) may be granted on conversion after 3 years as a commissioned officer. DSSC officers will be on probation for the first 3 years, and conversion to DRC is not automatic. Conditions of service vary based on the Corps or Service.
Method of Application:
Interested individuals can apply online from January 19, 2024, to February 23, 2024. The application process involves visiting the Nigerian Army webpage at recruitment.army.mil.ng, selecting the DSSC option, and following the outlined steps. Required documents, including a passport photograph, educational certificates, evidence of professional membership, and others, should be uploaded during the application. Applicants must print out their online generated photo-slip upon completion.
