How to Apply for Nigerian Army DSSC Course 29 Recruitment 2025/2026

The Nigerian Army has announced the start of applications for the Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) Course 29/2026, creating a fresh opportunity for qualified Nigerians with professional skills to join the military as commissioned officers. This intake is focused on bringing in specialists whose knowledge can support the Army’s technical, medical, and operational responsibilities across the country.

Unlike regular recruitment, the DSSC route is designed for trained professionals. Candidates who are selected will undergo structured military training and, after completion, will be assigned roles that match their qualifications and experience.

Overview of the DSSC Recruitment Programme

The Direct Short Service Commission is a special entry scheme that allows the Nigerian Army to recruit professionals directly into officer positions. These officers are not recruited as standard combatants but as experts who provide essential services in areas such as healthcare, engineering, communications, and technology.

Through this programme, the Army strengthens its internal capacity while giving professionals a chance to serve the nation, gain leadership experience, and work within a disciplined and well-organized system.

Professional Categories Eligible for DSSC 29/2026

Applications are open to civilians and serving personnel who meet the required standards. Each applicant must apply under a category that aligns with their academic background and professional training.

Engineering graduates may apply through the Nigerian Army Engineers. Accepted disciplines include civil, mechanical, electrical, structural, building, architecture, quantity surveying, environmental, and related engineering fields. Applicants are required to hold a BSc, BEng, or HND with at least an Upper Credit and must be registered with the relevant professional regulatory body.

Applicants with qualifications in information and communication technology can apply under the Nigerian Army Signals. Eligible fields include computer science, software development, cybersecurity, data analysis, telecommunications, networking, artificial intelligence, and similar technology-based disciplines.

Healthcare professionals are eligible under the Nigerian Army Medical Corps. This category covers medical doctors, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, medical laboratory scientists, radiographers, and other allied health professionals. Valid professional licenses are compulsory.

Medical specialists such as surgeons, orthopaedic doctors, anaesthetists, cardiologists, neurologists, paediatricians, and obstetricians and gynaecologists may also apply. These applicants must possess recognized postgraduate qualifications and current practice licenses.

Other qualified professionals, including psychologists, nutritionists, dental technologists, speech and occupational therapists, and health information management specialists, may be considered if they meet the Army’s requirements.

General Requirements for Applicants

Applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth and must fall within the approved age limits. Candidates applying under non-medical categories must be between 20 and 30 years old, while medical consultants may be up to 40 years old as of March 30, 2026.

All applicants must be physically, mentally, and medically fit and must meet the minimum height requirements of 1.68 metres for men and 1.65 metres for women. A valid NYSC discharge or exemption certificate is required.

Candidates must be of good conduct, with no criminal history, and must be endorsed by credible referees. Tattoos or body markings are not allowed. All submitted certificates must be authentic and issued by recognized institutions.

Service Terms and Commissioning Ranks

Those selected through the DSSC will be granted a Short Service Commission, usually for an initial period that can be extended based on performance and organizational needs. The first year of service is treated as a trial period.

The rank given at commissioning depends on professional qualification and category. Medical consultants may be commissioned at senior officer levels, while other professionals may start as Lieutenants or Captains. Promotions follow established military rules and are based on performance and available vacancies.

Application Procedure for DSSC Course 29/2026

Applications are submitted online at no cost. Interested individuals should visit the official Nigerian Army recruitment portal, select the Direct Short Service Commission option, and review all instructions carefully before completing the application form.

Applicants are required to upload all relevant documents, including academic and professional certificates, NYSC certificate, proof of age, and certificate of state of origin. After completing the application, candidates should print their forms and referee documents for future reference.

Candidates should rely only on official Nigerian Army announcements and avoid individuals or platforms requesting payment or promising guaranteed selection.

Why the DSSC Programme Is Valuable

The DSSC scheme provides professionals with a structured path to serve Nigeria while using their skills in a meaningful way. It combines national service, career development, and leadership training, making it a rewarding opportunity for qualified individuals.
