The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has finally responded to growing concerns surrounding the 2025 recruitment exercise, following months of silence that sparked frustration among thousands of applicants nationwide.
Over the past six months, tens of thousands of Nigerians submitted applications to join the Customs Service. With no shortlist released yet, speculations and complaints have been on the rise, with some alleging that the agency had secretly concluded its recruitment. However, the Customs Service has now cleared the air, urging the public to remain patient.

NCS Responds to Public Concerns
On June 20, 2025, the Nigeria Customs Service officially addressed the delay via its verified social media platforms, reassuring applicants that the recruitment process is still active. In a public statement, the agency emphasized that no stage of the process has been canceled or secretly concluded.
“The recruitment is ongoing,” Customs stated in a reply to an online user’s concern. “We sincerely appreciate the patience of all applicants. Please stay connected to our official channels for credible updates.”
Fake Recruitment & Auction Scams on the Rise
The NCS has also raised alarm over a wave of fraudulent recruitment and auction schemes circulating online. During a media briefing held in Abuja, the National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, warned Nigerians to beware of scammers impersonating senior Customs officials and offering fake job slots or auction opportunities in exchange for money.
“We’re seeing more fake social media accounts claiming to represent our officers. These criminals use them to trick innocent citizens into paying for nonexistent opportunities,” Maiwada said.
The agency reiterated that it does not charge any form of fee for recruitment. Any platform or individual requesting payment under the guise of Customs employment should be considered fraudulent.
Important Safety Notice to All Applicants

Despite the long wait, applicants are encouraged to remain hopeful. According to officials, the next steps in the recruitment process — including the release of the shortlist and further screening — will be made public soon.
Applicants should regularly check the official recruitment portal for updates and avoid relying on unofficial sources.
The Nigerian Customs Service is committed to conducting a fair and transparent recruitment process. While delays have caused concern, the agency assures Nigerians that all qualified applicants will be given equal opportunity — without bribes or connections.
