In an astonishing update on the 2024/2025 recruitment exercise, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has disclosed that a total of 573,519 applications were received within just a week of opening its recruitment portal. The National Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Abdullahi Maiwada, provided a detailed breakdown of the applications received:

  1. General Duty (Superintendent Cadre)
    • Total Applications: 249,218
    • Qualification: HNDs and university degrees.
  2. Support Staff (Superintendent Cadre)
    • Total Applications: 27,722
    • Qualification: HNDs and university degrees.
  3. General Duty (Inspector Cadre)
    • Total Applications: 115,634
    • Qualification: National Certificate of Education (NCE) or National Diploma (ND).
  4. Support Staff (Inspector Cadre)
    • Total Applications: 12,952
  5. Customs Assistants
    • General Duty Applications: 153,593
    • Support Staff Applications: 14,400
    • Qualification: Secondary school certificates (with or without Mathematics and English).

A Seamless and Thorough Process

Speaking on the recruitment process, Maiwada described it as both transparent and efficient. He emphasized that applicants were categorized based on their qualifications and that the positions span both general duty and support roles.

The NCS remains committed to ensuring that only the most qualified candidates will fill these positions to strengthen the service and contribute to its mission of facilitating trade, combating smuggling, and enhancing revenue generation.
