The Tin Can Island command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has made a significant interception at the Lagos seaport, seizing a total of N4.1 billion worth of hard drugs imported into the country from Canada and India. This operation marks a critical effort in combating illicit drug trafficking and securing the nation from harmful substances.
According to reports from the Customs authorities, the seizure included 2,144 packets of Cannabis indica from Canada, with an estimated street value of N3.2 billion. The drugs were concealed in three plastic drums within a 40-foot container, underscoring the sophisticated methods employed by smugglers.

In addition to the Cannabis indica, the Customs also intercepted significant quantities of Codeine syrup, tramadol, and other prohibited substances originating from India. This haul included 877 cartons of Barcadin cough syrup with codeine and 82 cartons of Really Extra Diclofenac Sodium tablets, amounting to approximately N964.3 million.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, emphasized the vigilance of the Customs Service in thwarting attempts to import harmful substances into the country. He noted that the seizures were evidence of the Service’s commitment to disrupting criminal activities that pose threats to national security and public health.

Adeniyi further highlighted ongoing investigations to apprehend the importers involved in the illegal trafficking.
