In a recent statement, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, issued a strong warning against the mistreatment of Nigerian citizens abroad and emphasized the need to respect their dignity and rights.
The statement came in response to a viral video from Napoli’s TikTok account, which had taunted Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen, for missing a penalty kick during a match against Bologna. Ambassador Tuggar expressed deep concern over the incident and called for adherence to the principles outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which underlines the equal dignity and rights of all individuals.
Ambassador Tuggar emphasized, “We should always remember Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.”

Furthermore, the minister pointed out that Napoli’s actions were inconsistent with the spirit of brotherhood by mocking their star player, Victor Osimhen, who played a vital role in the team’s triumph in the Serie A championship last season.
The Nigerian government’s stern stance on this matter underscores its commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of its citizens, even when they are overseas. This warning serves as a reminder to all entities and individuals to treat Nigerians living abroad with respect and to honor their fundamental human rights.
