Nigerian Police Recruitment: Fresh Update as of Today, June 28, 2025

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) recruitment process has witnessed major developments as of today, June 28, 2025. The latest updates involve approvals from the Nigerian Senate and ongoing preparations by the Police Service Commission (PSC), highlighting a renewed effort to strengthen national security through increased personnel.

Senate Approves Recruitment of 30,000 Police Officers

The Nigerian Senate has officially approved the recruitment of 30,000 new officers into the Police Force. This decision was made following the recommendation of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, chaired by Senator Ahmad Abdulhamid Malam Madori.

According to the Senate, the move is part of a strategic effort to improve security across the country. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given full backing to this initiative and has authorized the Police Service Commission to commence recruitment activities.

Police Service Commission (PSC) Steps Up Preparations

The Police Service Commission is actively preparing for the 2025 recruitment exercise. Under the leadership of retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hashimu Argungu, the PSC has partnered with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission to ensure background checks and data integrity are rigorously maintained.

This year’s recruitment will cover both Constables and Cadet Officers. Candidates will undergo a screening process that includes medical evaluations, physical fitness tests, and document verification. While specific screening dates are yet to be announced, the groundwork for a large-scale intake is already in motion.

Status of Recruitment Portal

As of today, the official recruitment portal — www.policerecruitment.gov.ng — has not yet opened a new application window. Prospective applicants are encouraged to monitor the website regularly for announcements on application forms, shortlisting, and screening schedules.

The PSC has also cautioned the public against fake recruitment lists being circulated online. Only information from official websites or national newspapers should be considered valid.

What Applicants Should Do Now

To stay ahead, interested candidates are advised to:

  • Check the official portal and PSC website regularly for authentic updates.
  • Keep their credentials ready for verification when the recruitment begins.
  • Avoid relying on unofficial sources or unverified information on social media.

The approval to recruit 30,000 officers into the Nigeria Police Force reflects the government’s strong commitment to public safety and security reform. With preparations nearing completion, Nigerians can expect official recruitment activities to commence soon. Applicants are encouraged to stay informed and be ready once the portal is opened.
