“Nigerian Ports Authority Implements 72-Hour Access Window for Export Trucks to Reduce Congestion”

In an effort to alleviate congestion and streamline the movement of export cargoes into ports in Lagos, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has introduced a 72-hour access window for export trucks. Effective from Monday, April 22, 2024, this policy aims to enhance traffic flow and efficiency around port access roads.

Under the new directive, all export trucks are required to access designated terminals within 72 hours after departing from the Export Processing Terminal (ETP). Failure to comply within this timeframe will result in the automatic deactivation of the truck’s access ticket. Trucks with deactivated tickets must physically return to the ETP for revalidation.

The management of Truck Transit Parks Limited, acting on behalf of the NPA, issued a notice to stakeholders outlining the revised access policy. Emphasizing the objective of reducing congestion and promoting timely movement of export cargo, the notice underscores the importance of planning and coordination to ensure trucks reach the port within the stipulated timeframe.

This initiative reflects the NPA’s commitment to optimizing port operations and enhancing logistics efficiency. By encouraging adherence to strict timelines, the authority aims to minimize delays and improve overall port performance.

Stakeholders in the port ecosystem are urged to familiarize themselves with the new policy and cooperate in its implementation. Through collaborative efforts, the NPA endeavors to create a conducive environment for trade facilitation and economic growth.
