In a bid to alleviate the economic challenges faced by civil servants following the federal government’s removal of fuel subsidies, the Gombe State government has unveiled a monthly palliative program. The state’s Deputy Governor, Manasseh Jatau, delivered this announcement on behalf of the state governor.
Jatau emphasized that the removal of fuel subsidies coincided with a global economic recession, exacerbating economic hardships for the people. To mitigate these challenges, the Gombe State government initiated various measures, including the distribution of foodstuff to less privileged households across the state’s 2,988 polling units.

Recognizing the vital role of civil servants in implementing government policies, Jatau stated, “We have also noted with sympathy the difficulties they are passing through as a result of the economic meltdown and therefore decided to bring interventions by way of payment of N10,000 each on a monthly basis, effective from the month of August 2023.”
This monthly palliative will extend to all workers on both state and local government payrolls. Additionally, local government councils are urged to participate in the GOHEALTH program by enrolling their staff to address health-related issues and further alleviate the economic hardships resulting from current economic realities.
By implementing this palliative measure, Gombe State aims to support its civil servants during these challenging times caused by the removal of fuel subsidies and global economic difficulties.
