Nigerian Woman Makes History as First Female Officer to Graduate from UK’s Sandhurst Academy

Officer Cadet Owowoh Princess Oluchukwu has etched her name in history as the first-ever Nigerian female officer to graduate from the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) in the United Kingdom.

At the age of 24, Princess Oluchukwu stood tall among 135 Officer Cadets who completed their rigorous training at RMAS’ Sovereign’s Parade in London. The parade, which marked the culmination of 44 weeks of intensive training for the Officer Cadets of Commissioning Course 232, was a momentous occasion attended by dignitaries and military officials from around the world. Representing His Majesty King Charles was Général d’armée Pierre SchilI, Chief of the French Army.

The significance of Officer Cadet Owowoh Princess Oluchukwu’s achievement reverberates through the annals of history, as she joins the ranks of distinguished Nigerian officers who have graduated from RMAS since the 1950s. Notable alumni include former Nigerian Head of State Yakubu Gowon and the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General Emmanuel Undiandeye.

In her statement following the ceremony, Officer Cadet Oluchukwu expressed profound gratitude for the honor bestowed upon her. “It is a profound honor to be the first Nigerian female officer to commission from the esteemed Royal Military Academy Sandhurst,” she remarked. “This achievement is not mine alone but a testament to the unwavering support of my family, mentors, instructors, and countless individuals who believed in me every step of the way. As I look ahead to the future, I am committed to representing Nigeria with pride and to making a positive difference in the world.”

The United Kingdom, in a statement issued by the British High Commission in Abuja, expressed pride in celebrating this historic milestone alongside Nigeria. They extended heartfelt congratulations to Officer Oluchukwu on her remarkable achievement, highlighting the significance of her accomplishment in breaking barriers and paving the way for future generations of female officers.
