
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called for a new national minimum wage of N794,000 for workers in the South West geopolitical zone. The chairperson of NLC in Lagos State, Funmi Sessi, made this demand during the ongoing public hearing of the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage in Ikeja. Sessi stated that the proposed amount was a consensus among all members of the union in the Southwest.

On January 30, 2024, President Bola Tinubu inaugurated a 37-member panel to address the issue of the new minimum wage in the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja. Negotiations between organized labour and the Federal Government have been ongoing, with both parties acknowledging the economic challenges facing the country as a basis for revisiting the minimum wage.
