The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Retail Limited has officially denied recent allegations circulating on social media regarding a fuel pump attendant allegedly coercing customers to purchase lubricants or engine oil as a condition for buying petrol. This denial comes amidst growing concerns and reactions from the public.
In a statement released on Sunday, Chief Corporate Communications Officer Olufemi Soneye addressed the issue, clarifying the corporation’s stance. “The attention of NNPC Retail Limited has been drawn to a recent video clip making rounds on social media (X to be precise) concerning a fuel pump attendant at one of our filling stations. In the said video, customers were coerced to purchase lubricants or engine oil as a prerequisite for purchasing or dispensing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol. The attendant alleged that this was a directive from NNPC Retail Management.”

NNPC Retail firmly refuted these claims, emphasizing that such practices do not align with the company’s Customer Service Charter. “At all NNPC Retail filling stations, customers are not obligated to purchase lubricants or engine oil or other products as a precursor to buying PMS (petrol),” the statement asserted.

The public has been advised to disregard the misinformation and report any such occurrences to the appropriate authorities. In response to the allegations, NNPC Retail Limited has launched an investigation into the incident and assured the public that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against those found culpable.
