In a resolute response to the escalating threat of banditry, governors from the North-West region gathered in solidarity as Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, unveiled a significant security initiative. The focal point of this collective effort is the inauguration of 2,646 Community Protection Guards (CPGs), aimed at fortifying the defense against the persistent menace of insecurity.
The ceremony, held at the Gusau Trade Fair Complex, saw the participation of governors from Kebbi, Sokoto, Kano, and other states in the region. Addressing the audience, Governor Lawal expressed optimism that the coordinated efforts of the newly formed CPGs, working in tandem with security agencies, would mark a turning point in the fight against banditry in Zamfara.

Governor Lawal reiterated his administration’s commitment to taking a tough stance against negotiations with terrorists. Instead, he emphasized the importance of security forces intensifying their operations until the state is entirely free from the grip of criminal elements, paving the way for lasting peace.
The Chairman of the Northwest Governors’ Forum, Governor Umar Dikko Radda, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing a collective commitment to waging war against the perpetrators of insecurity rather than engaging in negotiations.

During the ceremony, General Aliyu Gusau, serving as the chairman, called for seamless cooperation between security agencies and the Community Protection Guards. He underscored the significance of sharing credible intelligence to collectively eradicate banditry and other criminal activities.
As North-West governors stand united in this initiative, the hope is that the collaborative efforts will not only bolster Zamfara’s security but also serve as a beacon of regional resilience in the face of evolving challenges.
