The Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, today paid an official visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House in Abuja. The purpose of the visit was to brief the President on the level of preparedness of the Commission to conduct the upcoming 2023 Census.
During the meeting, Hon. Kwarra informed President Buhari that the NPC has made significant progress in its preparations for the census. He highlighted that the Commission has already commenced the pre-census activities, which include the enumeration area demarcation, cartographic mapping, and the procurement of materials and equipment needed for the exercise.
Hon. Kwarra also assured the President that the Commission is committed to ensuring a successful and credible census exercise. He stated that the NPC has been working closely with various stakeholders, including traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organizations, and international development partners, to mobilize support for the census and ensure its success.
In his response, President Buhari expressed his appreciation for the update provided by the NPC Chairman and commended the Commission for its efforts towards ensuring a successful census exercise. He urged the NPC to continue working closely with all relevant stakeholders to ensure a smooth and transparent exercise.

The 2023 Census is expected to provide accurate data on the country’s population, which is crucial for planning and development purposes. It is also significant as it will be the first digital census to be conducted in Nigeria.
