In an unexpected twist, some opposition candidates who participated in the 2023 presidential election have reached out to President Bola Tinubu, asking for employment opportunities within his administration. This appeal was made during a visit by these candidates, united under the “Forum of Concerned Presidential Candidates,” to the head of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, at the party’s headquarters in Abuja.
The group consisted of Charles Nnadi from the Action Peoples Party, Felix Osakwe from the National Rescue Movement, Prof. Peter Umeadi from the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Dr. Odey Udo from the Action Democratic Party, and was led by Adewale Adeogun. They aimed to convey their willingness to collaborate rather than merely oppose.

Felix Osakwe, representing the National Rescue Movement, expressed their desire to contribute by assisting in the upcoming gubernatorial elections in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi States, scheduled for November. He suggested that President Tinubu meet them in person to understand their perspective. Osakwe also explained that they opted not to challenge the election results in court because they have faith in Nigeria’s legal system.
Osakwe stated, “We believe that Mr. Chairman is the appropriate person to help us arrange a meeting with Mr. President. We want to communicate that not all of us were against him during the election. Our choice to avoid legal action reflects our trust in Nigeria’s processes. Our purpose here is to express gratitude.”

He added, “The former presidential candidates are ready and eager to serve our nation. We have a simple request for the party—to include us in the campaign councils for the Governorship elections. We have discussed this and all of us agree in seeking your assistance to be part of the campaign efforts. Our involvement is vital as we approach the elections in these three states in November.”
This unexpected gesture by the opposition candidates has sparked discussions about potential changes in Nigeria’s political landscape. Their willingness to cooperate signals a departure from the conventional confrontational politics.
