The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State has rejected the results of the recently concluded Local Government Council elections, citing irregularities and vowing to challenge the outcome in court.
In a statement released on Monday, Chief Chigozie Igwe, the state chairman of the PDP, described the election process as a “charade,” stating that the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) failed to conduct a credible election. This follows the announcement by Mrs. Genevieve Osakwe, ANSIEC Chairman, who declared the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as the winner of all 21 local government chairmanship positions and 326 councillorship seats. Osakwe had earlier described the election as “free, fair, credible, and peaceful.”

Igwe, however, dismissed these claims, alleging that election materials were selectively distributed to areas favorable to APGA while other regions, including Zikdton Primary School in Nza Ozubulu, where he voted, did not receive any results.
“The PDP did not boycott the election, unlike other political parties, and we complied with all conditions, including selling forms, screening nominees, and campaigning within the stipulated time. However, on election day, ANSIEC sent officials and materials only to their preferred locations, and no results were released from various polling units,” Igwe lamented.
The PDP chairman further emphasized that the party would not stand by while the autonomy of Anambra’s local governments is compromised. He vowed that the party would pursue all legal means to ensure that local government funds are used transparently for the development of communities.
The PDP’s rejection of the results adds to the growing controversy surrounding the election, which has already seen several parties question the legitimacy of the process. As the party prepares to challenge the results in court, the political atmosphere in Anambra remains tense.
