Peter Obi, the former Nigerian presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), was reportedly detained by immigration officials at London’s Heathrow Airport on April 7, 2023, over allegations of impersonation. According to reports, Obi was stopped by immigration officials who handed him a detention note and subjected him to questioning, despite having lived in the UK for over a decade. The LP presidential candidate was in London to celebrate Easter.
The Head of Obi-Datti Media, Mr. Diran Onifade, expressed concerns about the implications of the alleged impersonation, as it could lead to Obi being implicated in various crimes and other illegal activities. Onifade also noted that Obi has faced numerous attacks since the February 25th, 2023 presidential election, in which he placed third out of 18 candidates as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
