A startling revelation has emerged from the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, where a fake medical practitioner was apprehended by the diligent efforts of the Lagos State Police Command. Identified as Tayo Shakirudeen, hailing from Abeokuta, Ogun State, the impostor had been operating with a forged certificate purportedly from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State.
According to reports from the police, approximately 200 patient cards were discovered in Shakirudeen’s possession, raising serious concerns about the extent of his deceptive medical practice. Despite lacking authentic medical credentials, he confessed to treating various ailments, including malaria, typhoid, infections, and even performing surgical procedures on unsuspecting patients, particularly children suffering from appendicitis.
Shakirudeen admitted to his fraudulent activities, revealing that he had been masquerading as a medical practitioner for three years, primarily relying on his experience as a Nursing Assistant at The Jones Hospital, Ojokoro, along Ikorodu Road. His deceptive practices extended to conducting surgeries, describing in detail the procedures he claimed to have performed.

The fake doctor’s operations were not confined to medical procedures alone; he also managed a hospital named Skyline Medical Centre in Ikorodu, where he employed six workers. Shockingly, Shakirudeen confessed to charging exorbitant fees, with one hundred fifty thousand naira being his standard fee for treatments.
Further investigation unveiled that Shakirudeen’s qualifications were limited to a Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) from Majidun Grammar School, contradicting the elaborate facade he had constructed around his medical expertise.
In his own words, Shakirudeen expressed remorse for his actions, urging others engaged in similar deceitful practices to desist from endangering the lives of unsuspecting patients.
The arrest of the fake doctor serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by individuals exploiting vulnerabilities within the healthcare system for personal gain. The Lagos State Police Command deserves commendation for their swift action in apprehending Shakirudeen and preventing further harm to innocent citizens.
