In a significant security operation, the police in Yola, Adamawa State, have successfully foiled an attempted attack on the residence of former vice president and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar. Four individuals suspected to be members of the notorious insurgent group, Boko Haram, were arrested in connection with the plot.

The information was officially disclosed on Monday, as confirmed by the media office of Atiku Abubakar. According to their statement, the security operatives apprehended a man at the gate of Atiku’s residence on Sunday, 23 July 2023, around 9:44 pm. Upon questioning, the man identified himself as Jubrila Mohammed, a 29-year-old from Damboa in Borno State, and confessed to being a member of Boko Haram.

The arrest of Jubrila Mohammed led to further police investigation, which resulted in the apprehension of three other suspects who were allegedly working together to carry out the planned attack. Their intentions extended beyond targeting Atiku’s residence and also included attacking other organizations associated with him and some sensitive locations within Yola.

The swift action taken by the police in apprehending the suspects has been lauded by Atiku Abubakar’s media office. The suspects have now been handed over to military authorities for further investigation and appropriate legal action.
