In a significant development, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has reported that a staggering 136,177 applicants aspiring to join the ranks as constables have undergone screening since the commencement of the recruitment exercise on January 8. According to Mr Ikechukwu Ani, the Public Relations Officer of the commission, details of 108,768 individuals have already been uploaded, while the processing of the remaining candidates has faced delays attributed to network challenges.
Managed by the Police Recruitment Board, the current recruitment initiative aims to assess a massive pool of 416,270 Nigerian youths seeking a career in the Nigeria Police Force. The selection process involves rigorous physical and credentials screening, leading to subsequent stages such as aptitude tests and medical examinations.

Ani highlighted the commission’s commitment to enhancing and automating the recruitment processes, emphasizing the importance of credibility and the establishment of measurable standards for the final selection of successful candidates. Real-time uploading of results and outcomes to the commission’s portal is closely monitored by a Situation Room, led by Commission Chairman Mr Solomon Arase, a retired Inspector-General of Police.
However, concerns have arisen as Chairman Arase expressed surprise at the inability of some candidates, holding impressive Senior Secondary School Certificates (SSCE) and National Examination Council Certificates, to write their names or introduce themselves. Arase questioned the legitimacy of such certificates and stressed the role of aptitude tests as a crucial filter in the recruitment process.
