Unveiling the Cause

In a statement issued by Dr. Friday Elijah, Head of Corporate Communications at JEDC, the fault originated from a tripping incident on the transmission lines. The issue arose at approximately 12:21 p.m., resulting in the shutdown of all 33kV feeders in the affected areas. This sudden blackout has affected residential, commercial, and industrial activities across the franchise states.

“TCN engineers are already assiduously working to rectify the faults,” Dr. Elijah assured customers. He highlighted the ongoing efforts of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to address the issue and restore normalcy as soon as possible.

Widespread Impact on Key States

The blackout affects the states of Gombe, Bauchi, Plateau, and Benue, which fall under the operational jurisdiction of JEDC. This disruption not only affects households but also impacts businesses and public services, intensifying the challenges faced by communities already grappling with economic pressures.

The timing of the outage has raised concerns, especially as these states depend heavily on electricity for economic activities. Power outages of this magnitude often exacerbate existing difficulties in business operations and daily life.

The Road to Recovery

Efforts to restore power supply are underway, with TCN engineers actively working on the damaged transmission lines. While there is no definite timeline for restoration, the statement from JEDC indicates that every measure is being taken to resolve the issue promptly.

Dr. Elijah acknowledged the inconvenience caused and extended an apology to customers, stating, “We hope to restore normal power supply to our esteemed customers as soon as the fault is rectified and power supply is restored back to normalcy. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we strive to serve you better.”

Looking Ahead

This incident highlights the critical need for infrastructure maintenance and improvements in Nigeria’s power sector. Stakeholders and electricity providers must collaborate to prevent future occurrences and enhance service reliability.
