On September 3, 2024, President Bola Tinubu took a significant step toward addressing youth employment and development in Nigeria by approving the establishment of the ‘Youth House’ in Abuja. This innovative initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Youth Development, aims to serve as a central hub for young people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds to gather, engage, and develop essential life skills.
The Minister of State for Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, made the announcement in Abuja, highlighting the broad scope of the initiative. He explained that the Youth House would not only be situated in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) but would also extend to every state in Nigeria, with Youth Centres located in state capitals and Youth Green Houses established in the secretariats of all 774 local government areas.
The Youth House initiative responds to longstanding calls from various youth groups and stakeholders for a dedicated space that would enable young Nigerians to interact, showcase their talents, and develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills. According to Mr. Olawande, this move aligns with President Tinubu’s commitment to youth development under his Renewed Hope Agenda, which has already delivered tangible benefits to the nation’s youth.
The initiative will be coordinated in partnership with the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and the private sector, creating opportunities for youth engagement and empowerment across the country. Detailed organograms and functions of the Youth House will be released in due course, providing a clearer picture of how this landmark project will operate.
By establishing the Youth House, President Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to bringing the government closer to the youth and promoting fairness and inclusivity in the implementation of youth programs and policies.
