The Nigerian President, who also serves as the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, departed Abuja on Saturday morning. He arrived at Kotoka International Airport, Accra, where he was welcomed by a delegation including Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Education, Prof Kingsley Nyarko; Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tugar; and Charge D’Affaires at the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana, Ambassador Dayo Adeoye.

Official Reception and Agenda

In a statement released on Friday by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, it was highlighted that President Tinubu, in his capacity as ECOWAS Chairman, will address the AU meeting on the status of regional integration in Africa.

“In his capacity as the Chairman of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Tinubu will address the meeting on the status of regional integration across various areas in Africa,” Ngelale stated.

The President is expected to discuss the achievements and challenges faced in West Africa since the previous AU meeting held in Nairobi, Kenya, in July 2023. Meeting Highlights

Key items on the agenda in Accra include evaluating the AU’s early warning and conflict prevention mechanisms and fostering cooperation among regional economic communities to expedite integration efforts. The meeting will culminate in the adoption of a declaration themed ‘Educate and Skill Africa for the 21st Century.’

Ngelale added, “The President will highlight the achievements and challenges encountered in West Africa since the last meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, in July 2023. He will also present the ‘2024 Report on the State of the Community,’ focusing on peace, regional security, governance, economic integration, humanitarian and social development, energy, mines and agriculture.”
