President Tinubu Orders Scrapping of EFCC, ICPC, NTA, NCC, and Other Agencies as Oronsaye Report Implemented

President Bola Tinubu has taken decisive action in implementing the Stephen Oronsaye panel’s recommendations for civil service reform, ordering the immediate scrapping of several agencies including the EFCC, ICPC, NTA, NCC, and others.

On Monday, February 26, President Tinubu directed the full implementation of the Oronsaye report, which highlights measures for the abolition, reduction, merger, and revision of various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) within the federal government.

The move underscores the government’s commitment to streamlining operations within the civil service to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in governance. The decision to implement the Oronsaye report reflects a long-standing effort to address the challenges posed by the proliferation of MDAs and improve overall service delivery.

While much attention has been given to the Oronsaye report, it’s imperative to recognize the significance of previous initiatives such as the 1999 Ahmed Joda’s Report on Streamlining and Rationalization of Poverty Alleviation Institutions and Agencies. President Olusegun Obasanjo’s commission aimed to address inefficiencies in existing establishments, reflecting a continuous commitment to administrative reform in Nigeria.

Additionally, the 2014 National Conference, chaired by retired Chief Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi, remains relevant in the discourse on governance and institutional reform. These initiatives collectively underscore the government’s proactive stance towards addressing structural inefficiencies and enhancing public service delivery.

President Tinubu’s directive marks a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s administrative landscape, signaling a concerted effort to streamline operations and optimize resources for improved governance outcomes. As the government moves forward with the implementation of these reforms, stakeholders must remain engaged to ensure that the objectives of efficiency, accountability, and transparency are upheld across all sectors of the civil service.

By aligning with the recommendations of the Oronsaye report and other seminal initiatives, President Tinubu’s administration reaffirms its commitment to advancing administrative reform and driving sustainable development in Nigeria.
