President Tinubu Suspends N-Power and Social Investment Programs Amid Alleged Mismanagement

In a recent development, President Bola Tinubu has taken decisive action by suspending all Social Investment Programmes administered by the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA). The decision comes in the wake of an ongoing investigation into alleged malfeasance in the management of the agency and its programs.

Announcing the suspension in a statement released on Friday, the Director of Information at the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Segun Imohiosen, revealed that all four programs under NSIPA – the N-Power Programme, Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme, and Home Grown School Feeding Programme – have been temporarily halted for a period of six weeks.

President Tinubu expressed significant concerns about operational lapses and improprieties related to payments to the beneficiaries of these programs, prompting the suspension. To ensure a comprehensive review, Tinubu has also established a ministerial panel tasked with examining the agency’s operations and recommending essential reforms for NSIPA.

During this six-week suspension, all activities related to NSIPA, including distributions, events, payments, collaborations, and registrations, will be frozen. The move comes as part of a broader effort to address issues surrounding the agency’s operations and financial transactions.

The NSIPA has been under scrutiny since the suspension of its Chief Executive Officer, Halima Shehu, in connection with an investigation into the alleged laundering of N37,170,855,753.44 within the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development. This investigation, initiated under the tenure of former Minister Sadiya Umar-Farouq, has raised concerns about financial irregularities and prompted the need for a thorough review.

In light of these developments, President Tinubu’s suspension of the N-Power Program and other social investment initiatives underscores the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and ensuring that public funds are utilized effectively for the benefit of the citizens.
