Ramadan 2025 Moon Sighting: Latest Update from NSCIA

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has urged Muslims across the country to look for the crescent moon that will signify the beginning of Ramadan 1446 AH. The moon sighting is expected to commence immediately after sunset today, Friday, February 28, 2025, which marks the 29th day of Sha’aban 1446 AH.

Moon Sighting and Fasting Schedule

If credible witnesses confirm sighting the crescent moon this evening, the NSCIA President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, will declare Saturday, March 1, 2025, as the first day of fasting. However, if the moon remains unseen, the fasting period will automatically begin on Sunday, March 2, 2025.

Coordination and Verification Process

To ensure accurate reporting, the NSCIA has released contact details of the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC). The committee, along with local Islamic leaders, is responsible for verifying and confirming all moon sighting reports. This coordinated effort aims to maintain unity in the commencement of Ramadan fasting across Nigeria.

Call for Charity and Support

Acknowledging the current economic challenges in the country, the NSCIA has encouraged affluent Muslims to extend their generosity by supporting the less privileged before, during, and after the holy month. Acts of charity, including feeding the needy, are highly encouraged as part of Ramadan’s spiritual significance.

Stay Updated on Official Announcements

Muslims are advised to stay tuned to official statements from the NSCIA or their local mosques for final confirmation on the start of Ramadan 2025. The announcement will be made as soon as moon sighting reports are verified by the relevant authorities.

As Ramadan approaches, Muslims are reminded of the significance of fasting, spiritual reflection, and increased devotion. The NSCIA continues to play a vital role in ensuring a unified start to this sacred month across the country.
