Inspired by his achievements, Adeleke’s father decided to bring his talents and expertise back to Nigeria, aiming to contribute to the country’s development by creating a World Trade Center and an African Wall Street. This vision was unfortunately met with adversity when, in 1987, the Nigerian government allegedly engaged in illegal and corrupt practices, seizing all of Adeleke’s father’s assets, including a man-made island now valued in billions and renamed Banana Island. Tragically, Adeleke’s father passed away under mysterious circumstances while battling the Nigerian government in court. Overnight, the family went from abundance to destitution.
In the face of adversity, Adeleke’s mother made the courageous decision to move her sons to the United States, specifically to the Bronx. Starting from scratch, they embraced the values of hard work and perseverance instilled by their parents. Despite making their fair share of mistakes along the way, both brothers eventually achieved great success.

Adeleke expresses deep gratitude for the opportunities America has provided his family, acknowledging that without them, he would not be where he is today. He acknowledges that, like any other country, America has its flaws and challenges. However, he firmly believes that it is one of the few places on Earth where individuals can start with nothing, exert relentless effort, and ascend to the pinnacle of success.
Concluding his statement, Adeleke asserts his love for the United States and states that he is unashamed to proclaim it. Nevertheless, he remains committed to seeking a better life elsewhere if he ever feels differently, intending to expose his children to different cultures and languages.
Remi Adeleke’s poignant reflection serves as a testament to the transformative power of resilience, hard work, and the opportunities offered by the United States. His story resonates with individuals around the world, reminding us all to cherish the possibilities presented by the pursuit of one’s dreams, regardless of the circumstances from which we begin.
