Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, celebrated the outstanding performance of Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire by presenting him with a generous N20 million reward. The governor further announced that Nwabali would be bestowed with the Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the national team.
Fubara commended the Rivers-born goalkeeper for his stellar goalkeeping skills, emphasizing that Nwabali’s performance, along with his fellow patriots, has brought immense pride to Nigeria. In addition to the individual accolades, Governor Fubara also gifted a commendable N30 million to the entire Super Eagles’ crew present during the event.

During the celebration, Governor Fubara expressed his joy and gratitude, stating, “We are achieving those things that may not be seen physically but bring joy and fulfillment. If we have not encouraged you in a way that motivated you, you won’t be where you are. So, it is part of purposeful governance and administrative efficiency.”
This gesture comes just four months after the Super Eagles secured a local trophy, highlighting the continuous support and encouragement provided by the state government.

In a related development, Governor Fubara recognized the achievements of the Rivers Hoopers Basketball Team, awarding them a substantial N50 million for emerging as champions in the Louis Edem National League competition.
